Personal and Organizational Renewal

I have gone on record and stated the decline in business over the past 18 months is not about the economy.  It is about the failure to renew, recalibrate and reinvent ourselves and our companies.  We have simply overrun our strategy.  Growth is never continuous; it is a cycle.

Regardless of the role you play, you can be a positive influence on personal and corporate growth and renewal. What a great time, with only a few days left before the beginning of the second decade of the 21st century!  Many are ready to get this first decade of the 21st century behind us.Pundits have suggested the years 2000 to 2009 could be called the "aughts," the "naught-ies," the "ohs," the "zeros," the "two thousands" or the "twenty-ohs."  Let's now shift our focus on 2010 and beyond.  Here are a few thoughts to consider:
  1. Optimize everyone's potential, including yourself. Everyone can help others see what they may not be able to see.  Recommit to mastering the essential skills of your job.
  2. Create and become part of a support system.  No one goes very far alone.
  3. Recognize that what you focus on, you get more of.  Focus on strengths, not weaknesses, what has been accomplished, not what we did not get done.  Reset to what is possible in 2010 and beyond.
  4. Eliminate judging and criticizing.  Become unconditionally accepting, encouraging and positively reinforce what is going right.
  5. Commit to practice trust building behaviors.  Begin by under-promising and over-delivering on all commitments.  Treat everyone with respect beyond just what they do.
At this time of the year, be especially grateful and express that gratitude to everyone who touches you in a meaningful way.

Enthusiastically,

Bob
