What are your expectations for the new year?
By Bob Moore, CMC, MCC, The Effectiveness Coach®
How many headlines have you seen lately or heard commentaries wishing good riddance to last year? For many, last year was a roller coaster ride. However, a new year is here and I suspect life will go in one of following three directions:
1. Many already claim not to be affected very much by the current “economic mess”. They still go to work everyday, doing pretty much the same job, living in the same house, paying the same payment (unless they made an unwise mortgage choice), and driving the same car which may actually cost less to operate than just a few months ago.
2. Another group may not be as well off financially, particularly those who are part of the 7-9% unemployed. Now, THEY have a problem and discussing solutions is beyond my scope here. If by chance that is you, I will simply say, sharpen your skills and get back in the game. Send me an email I will provide you a complimentary assessment to assist.
3. The group I have placed myself in and invite you to join, are those who believe 2009 will be better than 2008. It starts by focusing on what you want, your expectations and knowing what you don’t want. Now is the time to get very clear about what you will accomplish in the next 360 days before another New Year arrives.
Imagine! Can you imagine what could happen in this year by focusing on what it would take for this to be the best year ever? What can you begin to do better or different within the next 24 hours? For starters, could it be something that costs no money or take much time? It may be something you used to do and simply quit!
Consider how you begin your day—the first hour which can set the tone for the entire day. Many choose to begin with inspirational reading, prayer, exercise or a healthy breakfast. Take seriously the idea that today is the first day of the rest of your life. After all, we live only one day at a time. How we choose to operate for each of those 24 hours will determine the results we get between now and the end of the year. Now just imagine what living your best year ever will look and feel like and get started. It all begins by setting your expectations.
Enthusiastically,
Bob
