The NeFER Principle for Individuals
By Bob Moore, CMC, The Effectiveness Coach®
You who are long term subscribers have been exposed to the NeFER Principle before. I am writing about it again just now because most of us need a mind-set shift. What kinds of thoughts have been occupying your mind lately?
There is not much “good” news in the media these days. The cover story of USA Today (1/27/09) reads, “Job cuts deepen across USA” which underscores the economic crisis. The senior economist at Wells-Fargo, Scott Anderson says, “Some of the worst job losses are ahead of us, not behind us.”
Even if you are attempting to maintain a positive, optimistic outlook, how do you deal with these predictions? Clearly, this is a very serious situation. Here is an idea:
I was privileged to be in a workshop conducted by Ed Oakley, author the book Leadership Made Simple. I consider this book the sequel to Enlightened Leadership where I first learned the NeFER principle. To learn more about NeFER, refer to the email newsletter The Effectiveness Update sent out yesterday. If you are not a subscriber and did not get a copy, email me at

.
Ed’s session covered the Framework for Leadership™ which involved asking ourselves the following five questions:
1. What is already working?
2. What makes it work?
3. What do I need to accomplish?
4. What are the benefits?
5. What can I do more of, better or different to move closer to achieving #3?
I encourage you to order a copy of Ed’s book, Leadership Made Simple to get the full story. In the meantime, set aside an hour to ask yourself the five questions. I believe you will come away from that exercise with more clarity and focus which will give you a renewed perspective on how to deal with the current situation.
