Personal Effectiveness

Readers Make More Money
By Bob Moore, CMC, MCC, The Effectiveness Coach®

Here is an astounding fact: readers make more money—a lot more! (Even in tough economic times.) Several studies reveal business people who read at least seven business books a year earn at least 2.3 times more than those who read only one book per year.

A recent study by Bersin & Associates found that while 74.9 percent of all managers understand the correlation between reading and competitive advantage; they simply don’t have the time. This directly impacts their career —and income! This probably applies to all of us, not just managers.

However, as The Effectiveness Coach®, I challenge the idea of not having time to do what is important. Here is a shameless plug for the Time Mastery Profile, a component of the Optimizing Personal and Professional Effectiveness Process.  By improving your time-use habits, you could save five minutes each hour and raise productivity by 8.3 percent.

Why?

One reason is readers have a constant flow of new ideas and strategies they can use to help their careers, their teams and their companies. And given all of the layoffs and other challenges during this recession, isn’t doing everything you can to help yourself, your team and your company the best way to not only safeguard your career, but to help it grow?

What CEOs Are Reading
According to CEO, the following books were in the top ten most popular books in December 2008:

Tuned In
by Craig Stull; John Wiley & Sons. If you market a product, service or idea in any business, industry or organization, you must read Tuned In, a guide to understanding and meeting the needs of consumers, whether or not they make those needs clear.

Harmonic Wealth: The Secret of Attracting the Life You Want
by James Arthur Ray and Linda Sivertsen; Hyperion. Harmonic Wealth encourages you to get real and get creative about how to achieve your goals …and then walks you step-by-step through the blueprint for their attainment.

Could these two books and the Optimizing Personal and Professional Effectiveness process provide the leverage you need to raise your income and professional effectiveness in 2009?
