Having a Great Year Means Living Fully Everyday

By Bob Moore, CMC, MCC, The Effectiveness Coach®

Do you want 2009 to be a great year for you? Are you living fully each day?

For 2009 to be a great year, live 365 great days—almost 15 percent of them are already gone. The good news is you still have nearly 85 percent of the year ahead of you.

Living a great day often depends on how you begin your day—and that usually means how you begin your morning. That sets the tone for the rest of the day. Studies have shown the first hour of your day can be your primary multiplier.

Consider carefully and decide how you will get going each day. Avoid anything that could be an inhibitor.  For example, I now use more caution reading the morning paper, like a recent column entitled: “This Week in Economic Misery.” I don’t care to know everything such as the Conference Board releasing the leading economic indicators for January—like we don’t know enough about that already! Unless you make your living buying and selling negative details, it’s bes that you leave it be—at least until later in the day.

Before you go to bed tonight, make some choices that really matter. Decide what time you will get up tomorrow, and set the clock. Decide what you will wear and arrange your wardrobe, or at least part of it. What will you have for breakfast? Decide what time you will leave your house, so that you minimize the rush of “Rush Hour.”

What other decisions do you need to make well in advance that will become a part of your daily success routine?

To make 2009 your best year ever, make the choices that assure a high quality day and do the best you can do that day. Finally, set aside reflection time at the end of the day and consider any decisions you want to make better the next day.

When you get to December 31 and look back, your best year will be the collection of your best days.

Enthusiastically,

Bob
