Most business owners and professionals are constantly seeking ways to connect with potential clients. To establish or maintain a meaningful relationship is the primary reason most attend business and social events. However, the effectiveness of your effort is primarily determined by what you do within 24 hours following the event.
Yes, prompt follow through is the key to networking effectively regardless of your business or profession. Master marketer, Keith Ferrazzi, recommends using a process we set in motion right after we have met someone. This will assure a new acquaintance retains our name and reinforces the favorable impression we created when we met them.
To outshine your competitors, follow through must become a habit by having an automatic system. This will enhance your image dramatically. For optimal results, attend networking events with a “wing-man (or woman)” who can be an introducer. Be sure to search out people you already know and have agreed to be a mutual introducer.
To prompt you in your follow through efforts, be sure to make a note on their card to remind you of the situation and key elements of your conversation. Be sure to put their contact information in your data base rather than in a stack—with the cards of those whom you intended, but never did, follow through.
Meeting a new contact is a permanent part of the life of a successful business person or professional. Why not begin today to do it more effectively and increase your return on the investment of time and energy? I suspect your business will grow as a result.
Enthusiastically,
Bob
