Good Riddance!

What are you saying "good riddance" to at the close of 2009.  In my last message, I commented that many are ready to get this first decade of the 21st century behind them. This message will have different slant.

Part of my daily routine includes the devotional guide, Daily Bread published by RBC Ministries (http://www.rbc.org/index.aspx).  A few days ago, the topic for the day was, Good Riddance!, which included a story about the second annual Good Riddance Day.  Started last year on December 28 in New York City, the organizers encouraged people to bring to Times Square their bad memories and suffering of 2008 and feed them into the industrial-strength shredder or toss them into an extra-large dumpster.  Some of the shredded items were labeled the stock market and cancer and included bank statements and personal emails with negative information.

As preparation for the new year, the new decade, what do you need to say "Good Riddance" to by cleaning out your physical, emotional and mental files?  Getting to a better place often requires us to let go of anything we are hanging on to that drains our energy.  Many of my clients have found the Clean Sweep process helpful. The process uses a questionnaire representing four categories of life.  Review the form and check off all the items that are true for you.  Of a possible 100 points, most will only check off about half the items the first time through.  I recommend working the list until you achieve 80-90 points, which can translate into 80-90% completion or Good Riddance.  To obtain a copy with my compliments, send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it  or simply take a blank page and begin to list all the stuff in your head.  Be sure to number the items.  Now, decide which numbers you will act on and transfer them to an action list with target dates.  Then shred the paper and say, "Good Riddance" to the rest of them.

Best wishes for a prosperous 2010.

Enthusiastically,

Bob
