In the last issue of The Effectiveness Connection, I discussed John Butler's book, Crossing the Rubicon, a system to bring clarity and focus to your personal and professional life. The term Crossing the Rubicon (a river in Northern Italy) goes back to Roman times and was the point of no return for Julius Caesar; he was irrevocably committed to that course of action.
Crossing the Rubicon is, therefore, a term for taking bold, decisive and irreversible action. It is the point of no return. When you write your personal strategy you cross the point of no return in that you take control of your own life and set a transformational course of action into play. You effectively burn your bridges and face down your best excuses. Here are the Seven Steps to Writing Your Own Personal Strategy. How many are yet to be answered? When will you do it?
Step 1. Your Current Situation: The Now
Assessing the now is your first step. Get out of denial about reality.
Step 2. Reviewing Your History: The Past
What lessons are to be learned from your history?
Step 3. Clarify and Ordering Your Values: The Why
Get clear about the basis for your daily choices and actions.
Step 4. Crystallizing Your Mission: The What
What is the real purpose or calling in life?
Step 5. Committing to a Clear Vision: The Future
What does the future hold for you?
Step 6. Writing Clear Strategic Goals
Hope is not a strategy. Good intentions are not a goal.
Step 7. Tactical Planning and Implementation
Determine exactly what must be done, by when.
By answering these questions you will bring clarity and focus to your personal and professional life. Click here to order to book from Amazon.
